Scout Surge 9/11 is a great activity that youth can collectively connect to as they create their own ideas and social networks to commemorate and remember one of the most enduring human experiences in American history. Have them connect to the council social networks to draw more member and media interest! In short, it's a great opportunity to stay connected after the jamboree in a way that has profound meaning and relevance to our nation. Please
help promote the activity, but let each district, troop, post,
or crew make it as big and exciting as they want. This is a
youth-driven event. Involve the Order of the Arrow! Units should: • Decide on a specific location to meet. • Tell people to arrive so that at 8:46 exactly, everyone can recite the Pledge of Allegiance. • Use Twitter,texting, e-mail, Facebook, and MySpace to spread the word. •
Be as public as possible without obstructing traffic or creating a
safety hazard. Ideas for the event: • Have all who attend wear a red, white, or blue shirt. • Hand out flags to wave. • Fly the Flag of Honor ( www.flagofhonor.org/bsa.) • Visit a local fire or police department and say thank you. • Have everyone meet for breakfast after the event.
